MEHR: New international project on human rights

ESU OnlineStarting with September 2016, the European Students’ Union (ESU) takes part in a new project called Modernisation, Education and Human Rights (MEHR) that seeks to develop common tools for evaluation and quality assurance. The project focuses on the quality of European education on human rights and it will run until 2019 when it will end with an international conference organized by ESU in Brussels. MEHR is led by the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), and in addition to Swedish institutions, it also involves participants from Croatia and Portugal. More...

HERE-ES: Recommendations for student-centered learning approaches

ESU OnlineFor the last two years, ESU took part in an ERASMUS+ project that aimed to reform the higher education system in Spain. The project was led by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
As a result of the surveys and peer learning actions, the experts involved made several recommendations at national and European level, in order to promote reforms fostering the development of a student centered learning approach in the design and implementation of study programmes.
These recommendations are now gathered in two publications, freely available: Student-Centered Learning and Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes. More...

Shedding Light on Adult Learning and Education in the Asia-Pacific Region

In a special Thai celebration to launch the third Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE III) in the Asia-Pacific region, participants lit candles to symbolize the light shed by the report on the important issue of adult learning and education (ALE). The launch event, which took place from 24 to 26 November 2016, in Bangkok in Thailand, was part of a Policy Forum on Youth and Adult Learning and Education, co-organized by International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE), the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (DVV International), UNESCO Bangkok and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL). Turning research on learning cities into action: Success stories of three UIL scholars

Three visiting scholars at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) spent June 2016 conducting research into learning cities and how the corresponding lifelong learning strategies work at local level. With the support of UIL’s comprehensive library and in consultation with experts at UIL, the three scholars – Oksana Chigisheva from the Russian Federation, Serhii Pryima from Ukraine and Sawsan El Sherif from Egypt – explored a number of promising themes in relation to learning cities.
