The conference will be of interest to those involved in promoting and supporting access to higher education including researchers, policy makers, administrators and teachers working in higher and adult education.

46th eucen Conference | Lifelong Learning Universities and the European Policies on Social Investment

The eucen 2014 Conference which took place in Warsaw (PL) at the Warsaw School of Economics from June 11th to 13th in 2014, was jointly organised by eucen and the Warsaw School of Economics, the Educational Research Institute, the University of Gdansk and the Polish Universities for Lifelong Learning.
The recently recommended “Social Investment Package” means policies designed to strengthen people’s skills and capacities and support them to participate fully in the labour market and society. However, it also evokes the need for a critical approach. This conference provided an opportunity for Lifelong Learning Universities (LLLU) to discuss and define their understanding of “social investment”. More...

44th eucen Conference | Border-Crossing as a Viable Choice: Collaboration, Dialogue

The 44th eucen Conference organised by the University of Malta took place in November 2012 in Valletta (MT)
eucen's 44th Conference builds on the established link between thriving democracies, healthy economies and equitable access to quality, lifelong-learning provisions in Higher Education. The conference examined how the current, global financial situation, educational legislation, international aid and education reforms are impacting on equitable access to Higher Education. The conference also foregrounded initiatives and projects undertaken by universities, in collaboration with other institutions of learning and the community, to bridge the participation gap in lifelong-learning initiatives.

43rd eucen Conference | Universities’ Engagement in and with Society. The ULLL contribution.

The 43th eucen Conference took place at the University of Graz (AT) in November 2012 and was jointly organised by the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Graz and the European University Continuing Education Network (eucen).
eucen's 43rd European Conference offered an open and stimulating forum for practitioners, policy makers and researchers looking at the contribution that University Lifelong Learning is making to promote and accompany innovative processes in regional business and industry, in NGOs, and in the public sector. The conference also looked at the contribution ULLL is making to Civil Society in a more general sense, providing learning opportunities for individuals and groups for active citizenship and community development, aiming at a democratic development in our societies. Developing ULLL successfully means that more and more "new faces" are knocking at the doors of Higher Education – learners who were usually not considering Higher Education but pursuing other educational and professional paths. As institutions we need to look at how welcoming we really are – marketing is not enough. What do we do with these "new learners"? How can we support them efficiently and effectively?
Within the broad theme of "Universities’ Engagement in and with Society. The ULLL contribution", the conference addressed the following topics:
-TOPIC 1: Innovation in regional business and industry, NGOs and the public sector – the role of ULLL
-TOPIC 2: Community-based education and learning as part of ULLL
-TOPIC 3: An ageing Europe and the role of ULLL
-TOPIC 4: Supporting the individual learner in ULLL

40th eucen Conference | From Rhetoric to Reality

The 40th eucen Conference took place in November 2010 in Lille (FR).
The objective of this conference was double: First to make a state of play two years after the presentation of the European Universities' Charter on LLL by EUA in Bordeaux to Ministries responsible for Higher Education. Is it possible to measure some progress regarding the Universities' and the Governments' 10 Commitments? On which strands? In which countries? Second to come to propositions, recommendations and projects for concrete actions to start/accelerate/deepen the processes at work.
The presentations in plenary sessions and the discussions in workshops were based on the results of a survey done during 2010 with the help of the eucen’s members and National Networks, on the result of European projects in which eucen is involved and on contributions from participants.
Additional materials used during the Conference:
-The importance of LLL at the University: Indicators and Evaluation (ALV) - Alfredo Soeiro (University of Porto). More...
