The new programme for education, training, youth and sport is called Erasmus+

http://www.eaea.org/kuvat/EAEA-logo-2010.gifA new programme, originally planned to be named as 'Erasmus for All', of approximately €16 billion supports initiatives in education, training, youth and sport over the next seven years.
Over four million people will benefit from EU grants for education and training opportunities abroad between 2014 and 2020 - almost doubling the numbers who currently receive these supports.
Erasmus+ will focus on mobility, cooperation and policy reform. Improvements will be made to supports for international study, training, teaching and volunteering opportunities. These improvements will benefit higher education and vocational students, trainees, teachers, trainers and youth workers.
Good practice will be shared through cross-cultural and cross-institutional learning in education and training institutions, and youth organisations. These will be formally put in place through "Knowledge Alliances" at university level and through "Sector Skills Alliances" in vocational institutions.
The programme provides for engagement of the private sector to foster innovation and to ensure that practical learning and education is brought to the fore. The evidence base for policy-making and reform will be strengthened.
- Erasmus + will improve the employability of young people and open up new opportunities for them. Since 2007, approximately 400,000 people a year across Europe have benefited from the current programmes, and today´s development means that many more people of all ages and backgrounds will be eligible for these supports, said the Irish Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn, T.D.
The Minister noted that it is estimated that by 2020 nearly 35% of all jobs will be classified as high-skill.
- We need to ensure that our young people are equipped to meet the future demands of the labour market, and that we are providing them with opportunities that will reveal their full potential, he said.
He added that member state agreement on Erasmus+ has been a key achievement of the Irish presidency of the European Council.

Erasmus+ increases the funds for adult learning

http://www.eaea.org/kuvat/EAEA-logo-2010.gifBy Aura Vuorenrinne. The member states of the European Union, European Commission and European Parliament have finally reached the agreement on the new programme for education, youth and sport. For adult educators Erasmus+ does not seem that bad after all.
Erasmus+, previously known as Erasmus for All or YES Europe combines the Lifelong Learning Programme, international cooperation programmes (e.g. Erasmus Mundus) and Youth in Action. Additionally, Erasmus+ includes sports.
Adult educators can now let out a sigh of relief.
- There have been significant improvements to the original plan of the Commission and I think adult education community can be very happy about that, says Gina Ebner, the Secretary-General of the EAEA. Read more...

EUCIS-LLL sets up a task force on validation of non-formal and informal learning

http://www.eaea.org/kuvat/EAEA-logo-2010.gifThe European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning - EUCIS-LLL - has been advocating for validation as a key tool for lifelong learning for years and has now set up a task force to further tackle the issue. EAEA is a member of EUCIS-LLL.
The task force will look at the implementation of the 2012 Council Recommendation on the validation of non-formal and informal learning, as well as the current revision of Cedefop 2009 European Guidelines for validating non-formal and informal learning and 2010 European Inventory on validation.
EUCIS-LLL held the first meeting of the task force on 11 July 2013. Participants exchanged views with a European Commission representative that gave an update on the policy background. They debated on their vision of validation and recognition of learning outcomes, more particularly acquired in non-formal and informal settings. During their next meeting, platform experts and practitioners will discuss and adopt the task force action plan.

Radiocracy project improves awareness of democracy

http://www.eaea.org/kuvat/EAEA-logo-2010.gifEAEA GRUNDTVIG AWARD 2013. EAEA hands out the yearly EAEA Grundtvig Award to a successful European learning partnership. This year´s theme for the award was "Active citizenship and transnational solidarity - Adult Education as a tool against nationalism, chauvinism and xenophobia".
The article series spreads good practices by introducing the nominees of EAEA Grundtvig Award 2013.
The Radiocracy project aimed at developing radio content from and about local government in rural areas. It had the objective of engaging and training local youth on the creation and dissemination of radio content on their localities. Participants were involved in creating a series of radio programmes with a view to improving youth awareness of democratic systems.
The participants were made up of three teams: one from Cyprus, one from England and one from France. There were five young people aged between 18 and 25 years old in each team. Each team had a leader experienced in radio work. The English and French participants were mostly young people working as volunteers in radio stations, and the participants from Cyprus were all involved in media studies. The participant groups were all working as teams in their own countries, and they worked in partnership with the teams from the other countries. This allowed them to understand the democratic processes of their own countries better, and to compare it with those of other European countries. More...

OED stands for Outreach - Empowerment - Diversity

http://www.eaea.org/kuvat/EAEA-logo-2010.gifThe EU-funded GRUNDTVIG project "OED: Outreach - Empowerment - Diversity" brings together expertise in the field of research and development of adult education. The overall aim is to tackle the need for outreach to marginalised groups, especially migrants and ethnic minorities, for the development of more diversity in adult education, for the inclusion of learners' voices, and for the empowerment of its learners to become active European citizens.
This article introduces a series of good practices which are available on the OED website. They will also be presented on the OED Facebook page during the next few weeks.
The first outcome of the collective efforts of the network is a collection of good practices. It brings together 28 examples of good practice from 13 partners in the European Union. These good practices were analysed by the German Institute for Adult Education, Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning (DIE) in order to find starting points for professional development leading towards inclusive adult education. For this reason, the OED project is relevant to all adult education providers as a means to make progress in shaping inclusive adult education based on empirical evidence. Read more...
