@hjarche master class on #pkm Personal Knowledge Management

The past couple of months have pushed me deeper into the PhD universe, and that has lead me to rethink what I am doing in terms of my own knowledge management, how I am doing it, and where I can improve my actions and make my knowledge acquisition and sharing process more efficient (or simply more fun would also be more then enough!).
Knowledge management is mostly related to corporate or organizational learning, but the way I see it we are all in this together and networked/social learning is of importance to each one of us if we want to create our own Hive of Excellence. And yes, I would love to be a central part of a Hive of Excellence on online, mobile learning. Read more...

The power of #informal learning: A #social network perspective

Bart Rientiens gave a webinar at the Knowledge Media Institute this morning, describing three cases in which he (and his colleagues) looked at informal and social network learning. This was a must see for me, as it fitted a gap that I found in my research set-up (informal learning in MOOC with interactions involving both internal and external MOOC participants), and it potentially had the power to lift my research instruments to the next level (hopefully giving me some mobile options as well after joining a workshop later this week on Tin Can xApi - if possible). #pkm course: sharing current network questions

Although the master class of Harold Jarche only started 2 days ago, it already got me thinking about my networks, what works, what does not work, and where I want them to be situated. From the start the course asks each participant (and what a wonderful bunch of participants, the joined expertise!) to explore, reflect and strengthen their own personal knowledge network.

Free report durable Technology Enhanced Learning #Telearning

The Beyond Prototypes report provides a UK-based in-depth examination of the processes of innovation in technology-enhanced learning (TEL) with a special emphasis on building online learning solutions that are durable. The focus is also on design-based research. In order to do this, the report looks back at some long-running programs (one going back to the 80's), and their follow-up projects. Learning Record Store: what it is, what it can do

Format is a triplet of data: actor – verb (English) – object (what it is you are doing: name, activity, …)

Part1 notes from #xApi workshop #LearningAnalytics

In the past I wrote posts on the xAPI (first one in 2011 launching brainstorm, an update on the project in 2012, and one where the project is getting up to speed in 2013) which is in continued development and seems promising for learner analytics, especially the mobile options.

Efficacy, Adaptive Learning, and the Flipped Classroom

Speaking of efficacy and the complexity of measuring it, I had an interesting conversation the other day with Danae Hudson, a professor of Psychology at Missouri State University, about a course redesign effort that she participated in. The initial contact came from a P.R. firm hired by Pearson. Phil and I get a lot of these and turn down most of them. This one interested me for several reasons. First, it was an opportunity to talk directly to a faculty member who was involved in the project. (A tip to all you P.R. folks out there: You will have a better chance of getting our attention when the focus of the call is to put us in direct contact with your customers about what they are achieving.)
