From higher education legislation to implementation

Crunch time for French universities

Student support crucial to offset impacts of fee increases

A European Commission international study of nine countries has found that when balanced with student support, increased tuition fees do not have an overall negative impact on higher education enrolments. But it stresses that grants or loans are “crucial” in offsetting negative consequences of fee increases, particularly for vulnerable groups.
Entitled Do Changes in Cost-sharing have an Impact on the Behaviour of Students and Higher Education Institutions?, the report analysed the effects of different models of cost-sharing in higher education (the split between public and private contributions to higher education funding) on students and higher education institutions. European Union exit ‘potentially disastrous’ for higher education

Universities have warned that a British exit from the European Union would be “potentially disastrous” for higher education and the wider research community. Without membership of the politico-economic union of 28 member states, Britain would not just lose access to billions of euros worth of research grants, but also the power to influence the European regulatory framework with an impact on research and higher education, says the UK HE International Unit. Record 270,000 study abroad through Erasmus in a year

http://enews.ksu.edu.sa/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/UWN.jpgA record 270,000 students obtained European Union grants to study or train abroad in 2012-13, according to statistics released by the European Commission last Thursday. The most popular destination countries were Spain, Germany and France.
“Countries sending the highest number of students as a proportion of their graduate population were Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Finland, Latvia and Spain,” according to a commission press release. Read more...

New partnership to support 10,000 new PhDs in Africa
