New institute to train international engineering elite

Groupe INSA, the French group of national institutes of applied sciences, and the University Euro-Méditerranéenne of Fes in Morocco have launched INSA Euro-Méditerranée, which will open in Morocco in September. This first INSA outside France aims to train an internationally mobile, multilingual and multicultural, entrepreneurial engineering elite, and contribute to development and consolidation of the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The institute is also associated with the EuroMedTech consortium of Moroccan and European higher education institutions, and has support from the education ministries of 10 European and African countries – Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia. Turkey and Morocco – New higher education cooperation

Ministry sets out higher education, research priorities

Tunisia’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, or MES, has announced five priorities for higher education and research – reform of the sector, university autonomy, employability of graduates, improving education provided by private institutions and increasing efficiency in the use of research facilities.

Bloc creates virtual ‘regional integration’ university

Terrorists kill 148 people and wound 79 in university attack

As many as 148 people – most of them Christian students – were killed on Thursday after militants stormed a university in northeast Kenya, in one of the country’s worst Islamist attacks. Several other universities had warned of terror threats and stepped up security in the week before the attack.
Addressing survivors of the massacre on Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi announced indefinite closure of Garissa University College, after consultation with the university senate. Surviving students would be transferred to Moi University. Read more...
