Lieu :  Aichi - Nagoya
Organisation :  United Nations Educational (UNESCO) - Scientific and Cultural Organization
avec le Gouvernement du Japon
Programme :

Looking for funding for your research project? Turn to the public with crowdfunding!

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-prn1/174887_161806250531786_2075947517_q.jpgBy Marielk. In this post, Hedda’s own Mari Elken examines the idea of “crowdfunding” and its potential for funding research projects.
Opening up the Ivory Tower and involving the public in research processes is a process that has gained prominence in recent years, a while ago we also wrote about “crowdsourcing” – where communities or groups of people outside traditional research environments provide their skills for research processes. But how about using the general public to finance your research project through “crowdfunding“?
Crowdfunding as a phenomenon has emerged in the business circles as a means to fund start-ups, and. In the business sphere, crowdfunding is considered one of the key developments for funding startups. Recenrtly, Forbes commentary about the development was: “Trust me. It’s going to be big“, as various social network sites have also shown interest in integrating with crowdfunding platforms.
A number of these platforms in more creativity related areas have gained massive support and have been around for some years already. For instance, Kickstarter is a platform for funding filmmakers, musicians, artists and designers – and this platform alone has had 4,7 million people pledge over 768 million dollars for funding over 47 000 projects, with a success rate of 44% of the projects reaching their goals. Languages of the Lifelong Learning Programme

http://ec.europa.eu/wel/template-2012/images/logo/logo_en.gifLearning languages in the family - Let's become a bilingual family with the BILFAM project!
"Let's become a bilingual family" (BILFAM) is a project co-funded by the European Union within the Key Activity 2: Languages of the Lifelong Learning Programme. It took place between December 2010 and January 2013 and it was conducted by a consortium of 5 European countries: Italy, UK, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. The consortium included two universities, two language schools, a publisher, and a maternity centre.
A total of 125 families were involved in an unprecedented adventure: mothers, fathers and children shared the path of learning a new language thanks to the "Adventures of Hocus and Lotus" and the Narrative Format methodology created by Professor Traute Taeschner of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Over the years this method has been tested successfully for teaching languages to children aged 0 to 11 (for example in the European projects "Dinotour" and "Stories about Hokus and Lotus") and has been awarded many prizes, including one as best Socrates project in Berlin in 2007.
The family is the centre of loving relationships and shared significant experiences where children learn to speak, and so it lends itself very well to the adoption of the Narrative Format as the method for language learning. Families challenged themselves to act out the stories of the Hocus and Lotus dinocrocs and by doing so they introduced a second or third language in their daily life.
Along this learning path families could rely on the tutor's support both in face-to-face meetings and online through the website, where they could not only avail themselves of 13 activities especially designed to learn to speak a new language but also create a real community in which they could exchange experiences, opinions and reflections with other participants through a blog and a forum.
Thanks to the results obtained and the materials created in the project, more families will be able to start the path towards multilingualism by taking part in the BILFAM courses. Six training sessions, meetings with tutors and a wealth of materials available on the bilfam.eu website will allow them to experience daily opportunities to learn and use a new language.

Game-based learning: Latest evidence and future directions

http://www.elearningeuropa.info/sites/default/files/elearning_theme_logo.jpg“Game-based learning: Latest evidence and future directions” is a research report published in April 2013 by the National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales (NFER). The paper aims to bridge academic and non academic domains, to provide insights that will be of interest to educators, educational researchers, industry and others seeking to engage in a more thoughtful debate about the types of educational values that can be attached to gaming.
Interest around the use of video games in education is high, and following the emergence of new trends like ‘gamification’ the review carried out by Futurelab@NFER aims to provide educators, industry and researchers with an up-to-date analysis of the literature available around the topic. More...
