The 26th Annual EAIE Conference

In September 2014, higher education professionals from across the EU will head to the centre of Europe for the 26th Annual European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference. Prague will serve as the breathtaking background for the conference, which will operate under the banner of “Stepping into a new era.” The call for proposals for the conference is now open. Play a direct role in the conference programme by becoming a conference speaker.
‘Stepping into a new era’ is the theme for the 26th Annual EAIE Conference. Internationalisation of higher education has gone from strength to strength over the last 25 years, and higher education professionals are now looking to the next steps in internationalisation. This comes at a time when the dynamic field of international education is undergoing some of the greatest transformations ever, in all aspects of teaching, learning and administration. Will these transformations change the mould of the traditional higher education institution? What do the next 25 years have in store for us? The 2014 EAIE Conference will discuss these very questions as we take the next steps into a new era of international higher education.
The EAIE is accepting conference proposals for sessions and workshops until 5 November, 2013. The deadline to submit a poster or a presentation for the Ignite session is 22 January, 2013. Conference registration will open in May 2014.
Address 5. května 65, 140 21 Prague 4 Czech Republic.

YOUR input needed: policy recommendations for OER uptake

There are hundreds of thousands of free and open education resources spread across the internet and being organized into repositories such as the OER commons, TES Connect, and Open Education Europa. Yet many teachers and learners are not benefiting from these resources.
Policies for OER Uptake (POERUP) looks at in-depth case studies of user and producer communities of OER in Europe and abroad. The project has already created an inventory of over 400 OER projects and published numerous reports on European and Gulf states. Based on this research, POERUP has come up with three sets of recommendations for encouraging OER uptake in schools, colleges, and universities. More...

New funding application process under Erasmus+ for education staff training

Under the Erasmus+ program, the application process for study visits for educational and vocational training specialists has changed. Institutions must now apply instead of individuals, and include the “European Development Plan” in their application.
These changes take place in the context of Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals. Although the target group is individuals, applications for funding must be made by institutions for in-service training for education staff. Each institution must submit one application for all planned training activities abroad over a duration of one or two years. Specific names and dates do not need to be included in the application.
Institutions must, however include the European Development Plan as part of their application. This would consist of the objectives of the training and plans for preparation and follow-up.
The application deadline is 17 March, 2014, for training activities taking place between 1 July, 2014 and 30 June, 2016. National Agencies across Europe are now disseminating this information, so educators or administrators should contact their National Agency for more information.
The attached presentation summarizes the key changes in the application procedure. The presentation was prepared by the Open Discovery Space, which offers teacher training programs periodically. More information is available in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide in the section “School education staff mobility.”

UNESCO publications now freely available through a new Open Access Repository

The Open Access Repository (OAR) is a new collection of over 300 books, reports, and articles freely available online. It was launched by UNESCO under a new open licensing system developed by Creative Commons.
The OAR currently contains numerous research materials including key reports and publications from UNESCO. The repository includes materials in 12 different languages, and it will continue to grow as the organization adds more past publications. All new UNESCO publicatons will from now on be released under the new open licenses and added to the repository. UNESCO is the first UN agency to adopt an open access policy for its works.
The new licensing system used for the OAR was developed by the Creative Commons in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization and the UN. It is specifically developed for intergovernmentalorganizations. The creation of the OAR and the use of open licensing will contribute to the goal making more knowledge available and accessible to people all over the world.
