State initiates move to revive higher education council
By . The state government has initiated the process for the revival of the Maharashtra state council for higher education, an umbrella body under the chief minister, for planning and development of higher and technical education in the state.
"The state had a higher education council in the past, but it could not function the way it was expected to," Wasudeo N Gade, vice-chancellor, University of Pune, told TOI on Monday. "The push for the revival of the council has come from the state governor and the chancellor's office during the joint board of vice-chancellor's (JBVC) meeting held at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai a few months ago. Since then, the government is working seriously towards reviving the council," he said.
