The HUMANE Network is organising a seminar on “Quality Management, Accreditation, Institutional Ranking and League Tables: Policy trends and institutional responses” at Université Toulouse 1 from 25 to 26 September 2015. 
The programme will deal with different topics – what constitutes a world class university, real utility of quality assessment regimes and accreditation systems, and using league table and ranking systems as measures of quality. At the end of July, Universities UK launched their campaign “Universities for Europe” to advocate for British EU membership in the run-up to the national referendum most likely to be held in 2016. The aim is to promote the value of EU membership for higher education and research in the UK and to show how this enables universities to have a positive impact on the British society and economy. Technology-based teaching and learning is transforming higher education. Through new modes of teaching and learning, three complementary educational areas are emerging in European higher education – blended and online degree education; flexible continuous education and continuous professional development online, including new types of short programmes; and online open education through OERs and MOOCs. Launched in February 2015, the School Education Gateway website helps teachers and other education stakeholders stay informed about European actions for schools. On 24-25 August 2015, the ASEAN and European Union Support to Higher Education in ASEAN Region (SHARE) project organised the first in a series of SHARE’s policy dialogues. High-level education officials, academicians and researchers from ASEAN Member States and other project stakeholders attended this two-day event which was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. During the event, attended by around 80 participants from the Western Balkans and the rest of Europe, project partners presented their experiences from the project and discussed the lessons learnt. Topics included the enhancement of quality culture, developing an action plan for internal QA, and linking QA to strategic management. Participants also heard about the transferability of European practice to Jordan, through a presentation from the EQuAM project (“Enhancing quality assurance management in Jordanian Universities”). EUA has published a new report examining current European trends in quality assurance (QA) in higher education. The report “ESG Part 1: Are universities ready?” outlines what is known about the current status of implementation of each standard of Part I of the current Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European higher education area (ESG).
The ESG were recently updated, with the revised version having been approved by the Bologna ministerial meeting in May 2015. More...

The first webinar will include a discussion on “Achievements and next steps of the Bologna Process” and will take place on 30 September 2015, at 14.00 CEST. BFUG representatives from several EHEA countries will assess the achievements of the Bologna reforms and discuss the goals of the Bologna Process until 2018, based on the Yerevan Ministerial Communiqué adopted by the Ministers of Education in May 2015.
