State of the Uni survey 3rd report - fixed term employment

By Matthew McGowan. Many staff reported being employed for more than 20 years on fixed term contracts, with some still finding themselves on contracts of 12 months duration or less. In total, 6.6% of contract survey respondents reported that they had not only been employed on contracts for more than 10 years but that these contracts were of 12 months or less in duration. Fixed term employment: The gig is up (Advocate 23 01)

A recent AHEIA report, Australian Higher Education Workforce of the Future, noted the view of senior university staff that Enterprise Agreements ‘Limit our flexibility’ and ‘protect our staff from change’.
