Chilean Universities finish community projects supported by Talloires Network

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThe projects addressed a diversity of goals with an emphasis on serving women and girls
Chilean universities have a strong foundation of social responsibility, and this Talloires Network initiative was directed towards encouraging the universities to commit to advancing the social responsibility of higher education. The universities involved were the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Chile, Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Universidad Austral de Chile.
The universities competed for grants of $ 10,000 to support community service projects.  As a result, the university projects achieved significant impacts both on community needs and students’ development.

3rd QS-Middle East & Africa Professional Leaders in Education Conference

For that purpose, the 3rd QS-MAPLE Conference offers a platform for actively engaged university leaders, academics and senior administrators, giving them the opportunity to network, exchange best practices, and explore the rapidly changing profile of higher education in the region.
Besides, the Conference offers a Programme of Parallel Sessions where international higher education leaders and experts who are suitably qualified, have the opportunity to share information and viewpoints in a stimulating environment and in an authoritative manner.
Proposals of presentations for the parallel sessions programme can be sent until 22 February 2013.

13th AAU General Conference: Transforming African Higher Education for Graduate Employability and Socio-Economic Development

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThis event, organized by the Association of African Universities (AAU), will be hosted by the Université Omar Bongo (Gabon).
The Conference aims to serve as a major forum for consultation, exchange of information and cooperation among universities in Africa. There will be a major scientific symposium on the general theme: “Transforming African Higher Education for Graduate Employability and Socio-Economic Development”. Furthermore, the explored sub-themes of the event will be the connection between higher education and the productive sector, graduate employability, the role of the organized private sector, the socio-political environment and employability, and issues related to funding.
The call for papers has been extended to 21 December 2012.

Global University Summit 2013

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThis invitation-only event, which celebrates its sixth edition and is organized and hosted by the University of Warwick, will gather leaders from the world’s foremost universities, senior policy-makers and international business executives.
The topic of this edition will be “Universities and Economic Growth”, and it will serve as a platform to discuss the major global challenges facing higher education and society today. Some of the topics of discussion will be universities as drivers of economic growth, growth through technology, transnational education and the changing role of universities. A declaration of commitment and policy recommendations for the G8 summit of world leaders will be prepared during the event.

EUA Promoting quality culture in higher education institutions (PQC): Call for participation in workshops for quality managers

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThis event is launched by the European University Association (EUA) in partnership with the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), the University of Duisburg-Essen, the University of Lisbon and the University of Zagreb.
The project wants to incentivize those in charge of managing quality processes at universities to take on the responsibility for quality. For that purpose, the idea is to develop and implement three training workshops with a practical approach to strengthening quality cultures and providing quality managers. These workshops will also give the opportunity to exchange experiences and build connections for future cooperation at European level as well as collect feedback, while exploring questions such as: How to build effective communication structures for engaging staff and students in quality culture? How to use staff development as a means for enhancing quality? How to connect QA to the decision-making processes at all levels? How to avoid hindering creativity at the university through bureaucratic QA processes?
The workshops will take place in Lisbon, Portugal on 8-10 April 2013, Zagreb, Croatia on 22-24 May 2013, and Essen, Germany on 26-28 June 2013.

CSSHE 2013 Conference: @the Edge

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThis event will be hold by the Canadian Society for the Study of Higher Education (CSSHE) within the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, hosted by the University of Victoria.
CSSHE invites submissions that explore the overall theme or aspects of the theme “@the Edge” as applied to the field of higher education. Papers addressing specific-but-related topics such as online learning, governance, research, informal and experiential learning, recruitment and student services will also be considered for inclusion in the program. Proposals are due 26 November 2012.
This conference wants  to promote scholarship related to postsecondary education and offers an opportunity for graduate students, educators, policy makers, administrators, activists, and advocates to contribute, reflect, and share their perspectives on higher education and issues around student success.

45th EUCEN Conference: Transferring Knowledge in a Globalised World - A ULLL Responsibility

ATHENA Workshop Moldova: Fostering Sustainable and Autonomous Higher Education Institutions

http://www.guninetwork.org/logo_guni.gifThe workshop will take place at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), and it is co-organized by European University Association (EUA).
The ATHENA Workshop Moldova is a system-level event bringing together the main national higher education stakeholders, including university representatives and public authorities, to discuss university autonomy and funding in Moldova. The country workshop will take stock of the state of play, foster a national policy dialogue and formulate concrete recommendations to promote governance, autonomy and funding reforms in Moldova. International experts will discuss with Moldovan participants the challenges and opportunities of the new higher education law and its implementation. The workshop will in particular focus on financial autonomy and its impact on the financial management of universities. One of the main outcomes of the workshop will be the development of concrete roadmaps for autonomy and funding reforms and their implementation at national level.
This country workshop is aimed exclusively at the national audience in Moldova. The event should be of interest to university leaders (rectors, vice-rectors, heads of administration etc.), university managers (notably finance directors, human resources managers), academic leaders (deans etc.), Ministry representatives, representatives of funding bodies and other people concerned with governance and funding reforms in higher education.

BRIDGE - Best Practices in EU-Russia University Collaboration

MAIN THEMES: Conferences on the first day will address internationalisation of higher education, double degree programmes between the EU and Russia and the role of internaitonal accreditation and rankings in the higher education sector. Conferences on the second day will focus on funding opportunities for EU-Russia research and development cooperation and mobility.
TARGETED AUDIENCE: European and Russian University staff who are working with international university cooperation, both for staff working with international education programs and staff engaged in international research and development projects.
