Top Universities in India

India boasts 16 entries in the top 100 of the new QS University Rankings: BRICS, a ranking of leading universities in the five BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). Unsurprisingly, the top universities in India are largely comprised of Institutes of Technology (IITs) – the elite group of colleges specializing in engineering, technology and science disciplines which have so far provided the main success story of Indian higher education. Of the 16 IITs in operation, half are ranked within the BRICS top 100, and the first seven of these also constitute the seven top universities in India. Also performing well are a number of large multidisciplinary public universities, based in India’s major cities: the final three places in the Indian top 10 are taken by the Universities of Calcutta, Delhi and Mumbai, and the BRICS top 100 also includes the University of Hyderabad, University of Madras, Banaras Hindu University, University of Pune and Manipal University. The University Application Maze: Part 1

By Felix von Wendorff. I have mentioned several times how international students are accustomed to “failing their way to success.” But I realized I never gave you an example, so I decided to write down my own university application story, which ended in me studying at the University of Frankfurt, but was full of barriers and challenges to overcome. The main lesson is that most university application plans will fail, or need to be drastically improved or altered (the best laid plans of mice and men, you know the saying). But if you stick to the fight, then you will succeed. So here goes. More...

VIRTUAL EDUCA PERÚ 2014

Convocatoria

Erasmus+ signed into law

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingThe revamped version of Europe’s most popular student programme was signed into law on 11 December by European Parliament President Martin Schulz. Erasmus+ boasts a budget of more than EUR 14 billion for 2014-2020, nearly twice as much as its current funding, giving more than four million young Europeans the chance to study or train abroad.

Erasmus+, due to begin in January, is aimed at boosting skills, employability and supporting the modernisation of education, training and youth systems. It supports 13-30 year old students, trainees, apprentices, volunteers, teaching staff or trainers to seek education, training or even organised sporting activities in other EU countries. The leaders of youth clubs and voluntary workers will now also be eligible for Erasmus+ funding.

The programme brings together existing education and training initiatives Comenius, Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, Leonardo da Vinci and Grundtvig, which maintain their names as they are already well known. It also includes the Youth in Action programme and for the first time covers sport.

Overview
Following its successful 2013 International HETL Conference at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, the International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association (HETL) invites you to attend the 2014 International HETL Conference, to be held in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.
About the Theme
In Being a University (2011, p143), Ronald Barnett talks about the emerging university of the future as an ecological university, where the ecological university is not only concerned with the natural environment but is concerned about “…a much wider ambit, embracing the personal, social, cultural, institutional and technological environments and knowledge of those environments; in short, the world in its fullest senses.” The ecological university thus endeavors to cultivate those interconnections through meaningful and diverse ways of learning and inquiry. A learning-scape, therefore, may be defined as a conceptual construct that shapes our perceptions of our learning environments. A learning-scape may be viewed as a mosaic of learning environments (i.e., a holistic learning ecosystem) interconnected and interacting at all levels. Personal, cultural, institutional and technological environments can have an enormous impact on learning-scapes because all these environments are intertwined and symbiotic to various degrees. Thus, we need to remind ourselves that curiosity, creativity, and meaningful dialogue and interactions are vitally important because they form the basis for and the context of our humanity and human learning. We need to remind ourselves that appropriate design of learning-scapes matters. More...
