It's About Time and Tide

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/blog_landing/public/green.jpg?itok=D8D3DXB7By G. Rendell. There's a set of pictures currently circulating the Web.  Artistically done, they depict "what some classic American city scenes would look like today", given twelve feet of sea level rise (a moderate estimate given the widely anticipated collapse of Antarctic glaciers).  If you're Facebook acquaintances with anyone even softly focused on climate change, you've probably already seen at least one of these 'shopped photos.  And I have absolutely no doubt that many of them will make their way into slide decks for introductory courses on the subject. http://enews.ksu.edu.sa/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/UWN.jpgBy Wagdy Sawahel. The Arab world has been late to join the ‘green’ universities movement, which strives for lower emissions and less water consumption. Only 12 out of about 500 universities implement environmentally friendly policies and programmes to reduce their carbon emissions and help to combat global climate change. This is the conclusion of the recent UI GreenMetric World University Ranking which reflects the efforts made by 301 universities located in 49 countries in US, Europe, Asia and Africa to become sustainable. Universities tackle climate change threats

http://enews.ksu.edu.sa/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/UWN.jpgBy Wachira Kigotho. Based on the recent global assessment report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, in the next six years 200 million people in Africa will be exposed to a scarcity of clean water because of the impacts of climate change. During the same period, the IPCC predicts agricultural production from rain-fed farming in the continent will drop by 50%, while the prevalence of malaria will increase by 5% to 7% by the end of the 21st century. http://enews.ksu.edu.sa/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/UWN.jpgBy María Elena Hurtado. Each new report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, on the impact of global warming on Latin America jolts the region’s universities into action. Droughts in Amazonía, increased flooding in other areas of South America and temperature hikes of up to 3ºC in Central America are some of the scenarios predicted for the American continent in the 2014 IPCC assessment report.
