The International Conference Crossroad of Languages and Cultures
The International Conference is jointly organized by Faculty of Education (School of Primary Education & School of Early Childhood Education) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Interacademic Group for Bilingualism and Multiculturalism in Education and Society “Polydromo”.
The 3rd Crossroads attempts to investigate language borders and transcend issues of bilingualism and code-switching, moving towards issues of translanguaging and language policies in education.  The two thematic axis of the conference are: 1. Bi/multilingualism and translanguaging in education 2. Language policies in education. It will take place on 30-31 May 2014 in the Tower of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Previous Conferences "Crossroad of Languages and Cultures"
The 1st International "CLC: Learning beyond the classroom" was held in 2011 and it was addressed to organisations that offer lessons as a second language to immigrants, and immigrants organizations active in education for children and adults; the communication between the University and the various groups active in the field of language education outside the formal school context; and the emergence of individual initiatives of migrant groups on the issue of preserving their languages and the corresponding enhancement of academic research. Its objectives focused on the promotion of contact between Greek and Arab culture, under the initiative of the Ministry of Culture "Thessaloniki: Crossroads of Cultures" with a focus in 2011 on the Middle East.
The 2nd International "CLC: Greek-Albanian Contact" was held on 2012 at the Tower of the Faculty of Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki where researchers, speakers and participants focused on the integration aspects and policies adopted in Albanian schools and Greek schools, the research approaches regarding the contact between the Greek and the Albanian languages and educational matters in both countries.

The European Entrepreneurship Colloquium 2014 will take place on 6-12 July 2014 at Vlerick Business School in Brussels, Belgium.

The EEC 2014 is managed by EFER in collaboration with Vlerick Business School and a consortium of academic partners.

Objectives
European Entrepreneurship Colloquium (EEC) aims to:

• Provide a forum where the participants can learn about interactive teaching methods, including the use of case method, drawing upon the extensive experience of the Harvard Business School and leading universities across Europe.
• Develop and update skills in teaching entrepreneurship.
• Develop and update skills in teaching entrepreneurship
• Experience the latest thinking in the field of entrepreneurship through interaction with leading academics and practitioners.
• Increase interaction with entrepreneurial practitioners in teaching and curriculum development.
• Generate more committed professors and educators to entrepreneurship.
• Accelerate cross-border exposure of universities and faculty.

The development of technology considerably changes major characteristics and even the philosophy of education. Distance learning and e-learning have become a part of daily life and penetrate into conventional educational establishments. OER and MOOCs, as well as emerging smart education challenge existing educational systems. The kaleidoscope of approaches, techniques, breakthroughs and gaps in education make sharing experience and promoting cooperation a vital necessity at international, regional, national, local and institutional levels.
THEME OF THE ICDE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2014: Connecting the World through Open, Distance and e-Learning
SUB-THEMES:

• distance education: the economic, technological, pedagogical and social outlook
• open, distance and flexible learning for reduction of the gap between formal education and work
• e-learning in a conventional educational establishment: challenges and possibilities
• distance and smart education: narrowing or widening digital and cognitive gaps?
• quality and standards of educational provision in distance settings; social and cultural diversity and linguistic plurality; educational tradition and innovation – where does the balance lie?
• open, distance and e-learning as a field for cooperation at international, regional, interregional, national, local and institutional levels.

The Magna Charta Observatory of Fundamental University Values and Rights is a non-profit organisation based in Bologna, founded by the University of Bologna and the European University Association (EUA).
The Magna Charta Observatory aims to gather information, express opinions and prepare documents relating to the respect for, and protection of, the fundamental university values and rights laid down in the Magna Charta Universitatum signed in Bologna in 1988 by 388 Rectors of worldwide main universities.
The Observatory may work together or in agreement with other national, European or international organisations pursuing similar or compatible aims.

Trends in European Higher Education

Since 1999, EUA has been publishing the Trends reports, with a view to feeding an institutional perspective into European higher education policy discussions, and improving exchange and networking among European universities and support for them. The principal method is a questionnaire sent to European higher education institutions, which is complemented by other research methods, including focus groups, visits to universities, interviews, and questionnaires to other stakeholders. The resulting reports are designed to present reliable, longitudinal information about how the European Higher Education and Research Areas are being developed across the continent. Over time, EUA’s Trends reports have become crucial sources of information and reference works for policy makers and the higher education community alike.

The Trends 2015 Report is currently under preparation, and will be published in time for the Bologna Ministerial meeting in Yerevan, Armenia, in spring 2015. Compared to previous Trends reports, it places greater focus on learning and teaching, including e-learning and MOOCs. 

The institutional questionnaire was launched in January 2014. Please note that the questionnaire is aimed at the institutional leadership of higher education institutions.

The Trends Series

The first Trends report, produced for the Ministerial meeting in Bologna in 1999, described the state of European higher education, and provided a rationale for the development of a European Higher Education Area. The second report, produced for the Prague Ministerial Conference in 2001, was an update of national developments and extended the geographical coverage in Europe.

Trends III, prepared in 2003 for EUA’s Higher Education Convention in Graz and for the Berlin Ministerial Conference, was the first report to introduce the perspective of higher education institutions in the analysis, based on a questionnaire that gathered over 800 institutional replies. This report raised several questions and challenges regarding the nature of institutional implementation, many of which were explored in greater depth through a series of institutional site visits undertaken for both the Trends IV and the Trends V reports (with additional focus group discussions).

The same methodology – combining a survey questionnaire, institutional site visits and focus group discussions – was used again for the Trends VI (2010) report, which examined a decade of Bologna reforms in the context of other changes that have affected higher education, whether through international, European or national developments.

EUA would like to remind universities that its Trends 2015 survey will be open until 30 April. The online survey, sent to the heads of all EUA member universities in January, aims to map changes in learning and teaching in European higher education institutions, and to provide a comprehensive overview of the most important developments in the European higher education landscape over several years.

The results of Trends 2015, the 7th in the series of EUA’s flagship Trends projects, will be published in a report, which will be presented to European Higher Education Ministers at the next Bologna Ministerial Conference in Armenia in 2015.

As this is an institutional questionnaire, only one response per institution will be accepted. EUA encourages all members to take part in the Trends 2015 survey. Universities which require further information on the Trends survey or did not receive the questionnaire should email trends@eua.be.

EUA invites its members to participate in the 2nd Arab-Euro Conference on Higher Education (AECHE) that will take place in Amman, Jordan, from 10 to 12 June 2014.

Organised jointly by the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), EUA, University of Barcelona and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU), it will bring together university representatives from Europe and the Arab world to discuss higher education development trends in both regions, particularly with regard to student and staff mobility and its relevance in intra-regional and bi-regional cooperation. Themes that will be covered include:

• Internationalisation through regional cooperation and mobility programmes
• The role of student and staff mobility in educating the citizens and employees of tomorrow
• The development, management and strategic interest of joint degrees
• The role of leadership in building institutional partnerships and incentivising student and staff mobility. More...

EUA is pleased to announce the launch of “EUA Solutions” that will offer universities the opportunity to commission tailor-made services in a wide range of strategic areas related to higher education.

EUA Solutions will offer a variety of services ranging from thematic analyses and strategic studies to consultancy and specialised expert advice on particular issues such as internal quality assurance, organisation of doctoral schools, internationalisation, Bologna implementation, communication, lifelong learning and student tracking. EUA Solutions will also offer support for decision-makers and national authorities for policy development in higher education.

While each activity will be tailored to specific requests, the methodology used will generally be based around three core elements: background material provided by the commissioning organisation presenting and analysing the current situation; a site visit carried out by a team of European experts, selected from the wide EUA network for their knowledge and experience in the target area; and a comprehensive written report with specific recommendations.

Designed to complement EUA’s existing membership services, EUA Solutions’ services will be carried out on a non-profit, full costing basis therefore the cost of each activity will depend on the exact requirements of the exercise.
