Migration has become a crucial issue for Europe, one that is likely to dominate policy and political agendas for many years to come. Migration is also increasingly presented, both in public and expert discourse, as a challenge requiring coordinated European responses, involving both Member States and the European institutions.
FP7 research projects studied different aspects of the migration phenomenon such as integration and diversity, trans-nationalism, temporary/circular migration, migration and development, migration flows, data modelling, to mention just a few of the areas covered. Plus de 40% d’entre eux étaient citoyens d’un autre État membre de l’UE
Au 1er janvier 2014, les États membres de l’Union européenne (UE) comptaient 506,8 millions d’habitants, dont 472,8 millions étaient des nationaux (citoyens du pays déclarant) et 34,1 millions de ressortissants étrangers, ce dernier groupe étant constitué de 14,3 millions de citoyens d’un autre État membre et de 19,8 millions de citoyens non-UE. Il convient de noter que les personnes qui acquièrent la citoyenneté dans un État membre ne sont plus considérées comme des citoyens étrangers dans ce pays.
