University Mergers in Europe

The basis for the article is a study by Enora Bennetot Pruvot, Thomas Estermann and Peter Mason for the European Universities Association (EUA) that notes that there have been nearly 100 university mergers since 2000, with 14 of them occurring in 2014. The countries most affected are France with 16, UK eleven, Estonia eleven, Belgium 10 and Denmark eight. More...

African Union merges science and education bodies

SciDevThe African Union has merged its ministerial bodies on science and education with the aim of providing better advice to governments, it was announced last week.
The move has resulted in the dissolution of the African Ministerial Council on Science and Technology, and the creation of a new body, the Specialised Technical Committee on Education, Science and Technology (STC-EST). This committee met for the first time late last month, it emerged at the World Science Forum in Budapest, Hungary, on 3-8 November. More...
