Librarians love OER, according to online survey

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgLibraries themselves can be considered open educational resources (OER), so it’s no surprise that librarians are big fans of OER. In a recent online survey of librarians, 80% of survey respondents had used OER and 32% had created their own.
The Open Educational Resources Research Hub at The Open University (UK) teamed up with Co-PILOT (Community of Practice for Information Literacy Online Teaching) to investigate how librarians see and use open educational resources (OER).

Contribute to a visualisation of the global impact of OER

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgThe Open Educational Resource Research Hub (OERRH) is creating an Impact Map to show where and how open educational resources are being used and what evidence exists on their impact.

The Impact Map was created in response to the need for a place where various sources of data on OER impact can be stored, compared, combined, and visualised in an international context. The map and the data it represents attempt to support the OERRH's hypotheses, of which the two main ones are:

  • The use of OER leads to improvement in student performance and satisfaction
  • The open aspect of OER creates different usage and adoption patterns than other online resources
The OERRH's additional hypotheses are listed here.

Migrant Language and Social Integration

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgMINGLE takes into account the main principles of lifelong learning and liberal adult education, as the key to develop work related skills and competencies but also skills for personal formation in the community.
Moreover, the core concept of this proposal is based on the assertion that liberal adult education has significant outcomes for the development of skills required for active citizenship and full participation in society. We assert that civil society is based on active citizenship; the latter requires strong social capital, social networks, and lifelong learning skills. Through the proposed project we aim at upgrading self-initiated participation in informal or formal adult lifelong learning activities (often seen as leisure time activity), to a valuable easy-to-access and easy-to-follow process for individuals, enhancing at the same time its benefits for society in general. LangOER

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgHow can less used languages, including Regional and Minority languages, benefit from Open Educational Practices (OEP)? How can Open Educational Resources (OER) be shaped to foster linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe? What policies are favourable to the uptake of quality OER in less used language communities?
Less used languages face the risk of linguistic/cultural dependence in the fast evolving OER/OEP landscape currently dominated by English. The LangOER network addresses the needs of two main target groups: educators and policy makers. For the former, the project offers face-to-face and online training sessions in 7 languages, aimed at raising awareness of OER/OEP and covering the creation and use of multilingual and interactive OER. For the latter, capacity building is targeted through expert pan-European events, policy support and consultation mechanisms seeking to overcome barriers to OER uptake. LangOER.

VM-Pass

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgVM-Pass stands for Implementing Recognition of Virtual Mobility and OER Learning through a Learning Passport. It is designed to facilitate and increase the volume of recognition of virtual mobility experiences (including Open CourseWare) around Europe.
Despite the rise of Virtual Mobility and OCW (OpenCourseWare)-based opportunities for learning at institutions around Europe, recognition remains uneven and even acts as a barrier to uptake of these flexible forms of learning. In the past year, both UNESCO and the European Commission have called for this problem to be addressed through improved recognition tools. Project information.

Open education isn't about what technology you have, it's about how you use it

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyyRLMkr5gtFOcYk-JfjS0eglGc7wB7JtXmudEifjUinGlDkonBgThere’s more to educational technology than shiny new gadgets and software. This week, we are featuring a school that focuses on getting students to use the technology they’re already familiar with, like social networks and mobile phones, for educational purposes.
Practices are more important than devices
Our School of the Week this week is Colegio Sagrado Corazón, a school in Spain with just over 800 students aged 3 to 16 years old. Open Education Europa interviewed Rosa Casado, a representative of the school, about their innovative teaching practices. OEE Editorial.
