CAMPUS ENGAGE is a network for the promotion of civic engagement activities in Irish higher education. It is an initiative funded by the Irish government, through the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF 1). The current Campus Engage partners are: Dublin City University, National University of Ireland, Galway (lead partner), National University of Ireland, Maynooth, University College Dublin and the University of Limerick. The network aims to strengthen the relationship between higher education and the wider society, through promoting civic engagement activities in higher education in Ireland and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and resources between academic and civic communities. The University of Dayton, in Dayton, Ohio, is promising 100 incoming freshmen free bikes in exchange for pledges to forgo bringing cars to campus for the first two years they are enrolled. The program was being promoted to the freshmen members of the Class of 2017 in a campaign by an agency named 160 Over 90, which is based in Philadelphia and also has an office in Newport Beach, Calif. Half a block from the student union in the heart of the Oregon State University campus, the new home of the College of Business is steadily taking shape.
With a massive red crane looming over the construction site, contractors have been working for weeks on the four-story, 100,000-square-foot Austin Hall. By the fall of 2014, what’s now a hulking concrete-and-steel skeleton will be a sleek, modern educational facility, with 10 classrooms, a 250-seat auditorium, dozens of offices and a cafe. It’s a major upgrade for the college, which long ago outgrew its home base in aging, 52,000-square-foot Bexell Hall and currently teaches classes in a hodgepodge of locations scattered across the campus. Mais comment chaque établissement prend-il sa place dans cet ensemble qui sera visible mondialement ? Après une présentation des lieux tels qu'ils vont s'offrir aux étudiants une fois tous les travaux terminés, Gilles Baillat, président de l'Urca (Université Reims Champagne-Ardenne), a accueilli les signataires de conventions de partenariat pour la refonte de l'université en manifestant sa joie de constater qu'il ne s'agit plus maintenant d'un projet d'avenir mais d'une réalité, grâce à ces contrats qui matérialisent les liens de l'Urca avec les collectivités locales. Il a remercié la Caisse des dépôts et consignations, représentée par son directeur général Jean-Pierre Jouyet, pour sa confiance et sa mobilisation. En réponse, celui-ci a dit sa satisfaction d'accompagner ce « campus d'avenir », lieu de vie et d'innovation, de progrès en matière de recherche et d'insertion au cœur d'un éco-système de politique économique.
