Compétent pour les établissements scolaires publics et privés, les établissements d'enseignement supérieur et l'enseignement agricole, l'Observatoire est chargé d'étudier depuis 1995 l'état des bâtiments et équipements et d'en évaluer les conditions de sécurité. Dans son 19ème rapport, l'Observatoire revient sur les travaux et dossiers réalisés au sein de ses différentes commissions : commission « Accessibilité » (point sur la mise en oeuvre de la loi handicap de 2005) ; commission « Sécurité bâtiment et risque incendie » (mise à disposition des établissements d'une fiche « évacuation incendie » à destination des lycées et collèges, présentant les « bonnes attitudes » à adopter en fonction des événements) ; commission « Sécurité, santé, hygiène et sport » (mise en place du document unique d'évaluation des risques professionnels dans les établissements professionnels) ; commission « Formations professionnelles, scientifiques et technologiques » (mise en place d'une évaluation de l'enseignement de la sécurité, de la santé et de l'hygiène au cours de la formation professionnelle dans les filières BTP) ; etc.

Carleton University is spreading its 'culture of accessibility'
By . Carleton University, whose early history is linked with returning veterans, is a world leader when it comes to accessibility for disabled students. Now it is exporting that knowledge. This weekend, Dean Mellway, acting director of Carleton’s READ (research, education, accessibility and design) initiative, and third-year architecture student Quayce Thomas, will travel to Kingston, Jamaica to help officials there make the country’s legislative building accessible to people with disabilities. Jamaica has recently passed new accessibility laws, but has a legislative building that is inaccessible to many people with disabilities. Mellway and Thomas, along with representatives of Quadrangle, a Toronto architectural firm known for accessible design, will audit the building. Thomas will write a report when they return. More...
