Stop the Presses

By Barbara Fister. Some 1,000 people were laid off last week at BuzzFeed, Huffington Post, and a host of local newspapers that are part of the Gannett Company. Rashomon on the Potomac

By Barbara Fister. The competing narratives about a large group of young white men gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, most of them from Covington Catholic High School, caught on video either taunting people with racist remarks and behavior or being threatened and defamed by a drum-beating Native American, some black religious kooks, and the libs, makes me ponder how we might approach this dilemma from an information literacy perspective. I was recently irked by a Twitter thread by Jonathan Haidt, co-author (along with Greg Lukianoff) of the best selling The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting up a Generation for Failure, declaring that that increased depression and self-harm is directly attributable to "overprotection" and the use of social media. Guest Post: Avoiding Groundhog Day on Contingent Labor

http://www.insidehighered.com/sites/default/server_files/styles/blog_landing/public/JustVisitingLogo_white.jpg?itok=K5uvzo_-By John Warner. I was sitting in an audience at an MLA panel on contingent labor, furiously taking notes when I looked over and saw someone else also taking notes, and while we'd never met, I recognized her from Twitter.
