La Gazette européenne des langues

La Gazette européenne des langues, le bulletin d'information électronique du CELV, présente les actualités du Centre (événements, projets, ressources), de l'Unité des politiques linguistiques et d'autres secteurs pertinents du Conseil de l'Europe, ainsi que de nos partenaires. Il met également l'accent sur les développements nationaux dans le domaine de l'éducation aux langues dans les Etats membres et au-delà.

This master thesis analyses the pluralistic approaches proposed by the ECML project "FREPA - A framework of reference for pluralistic approaches" on the basis of some activities chosen according to the criteria caracterising each of the four approaches: Awakening to languages, Intercomprehension between related languages, Integrated didactics, Intercultural approach. The author includes a section on the ECML project "Involving parents in plurilingual and intercultural education"Involving parents in plurilingual and intercultural education" supporting the idea that the inclusion of parents in multilingual education is key to its success.

www.ecml.at relaunched

The ECML website has just been relaunched with a new look and a series of new features.
The biggest change is the showcasing of the Centre’s work around nine key themes : Plurilingual Education; Early Language Learning; New Media in Language Education; Employment and Languages; Evaluation and Assessment; Mobility and Intercultural Learning; Migrants and Language Education; Signed Languages and Content and Language Integrated Learning. France: Courriel européen des langues - Spotlight on languages and employability

The International Centre for Pedagogical Studies (CIEP) has recently published the lastest issue of the Courriel européen des langues (only available in French). This issue offers a summary of the final seminar of the project "Languages ​​and employability / Langues et employabilité" (LEMP) held in June 2015 during which the results of a survey among over 800 companies were presented.
You will also find detailed information about the participation of French experts in ECML workshops and the EU programme "European Award for Languages ​​: Network of European Language Labelled Initiative Project / NelliP) which is aimed to promote quality in language learning through the application of the quality criteria used to award the European Language Label, as well as a selection of publications, educational resources and seminars announcements. Council of Europe Symposium on "The linguistic integration of adult migrants: lessons from research"

The Council of Europe's Language Policy Unit is organising a symposium on "The linguistic integration of adult migrants: lessons from research" in Strasbourg on 30 March - 1 April 2016. Its aim is to consider to what extent and in what ways scientific evidence can inform the development of policy and practice designed to support the linguistic integration of adult migrants.
You are invited to disseminate the Call for papers widely among your networks.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is 15 September 2015.

OLBI’s Annual Report for 2013-2014 - Highlights relating to the ECML

The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) remains the Canadian contact point for the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) of the Council of Europe. It coordinates the participation of Canadian experts in ECML projects within the current programme ‘Learning through Languages 2012-2015’ and regularly exhibits teaching and research publications of the ECML and of its own research groups, during annual conferences and events.
OLBI’s Director Richard Clément (*) participated in the ECML conference on “Quality education and language competences for 21st century society: traditions, challenges and visions” (19-20 March 2014, in Graz, Austria). (p. 16)

EPOSTL presented at GlobELT 2015 Conference

The GlobELT 2015 Conference brought together researchers, practitioners, and educators with an  interest in language teaching and linguistics at all levels from around the world to promote connections between theory and practice and to explore different perspectives on the application of research findings in different contexts.
Three eminent linguists were invited as keynote speakers: David Newby (University of Graz, Austria), Rod Ellis (University of Auckland, New Zealand) and Gülcan Erçetin (Boğaziçi University, Turkey)
