45th eucen Conference | Transferring Knowledge in a Globalised World: a ULLL Responsibility

The 45th eucen Conference organised by the University of Geneva took place in May 2013 at the Cailler Conference Centre in Charmey (CH).
Today, like the economy in general, knowledge too is globalised. Universities position their knowledge in a world-wide context. New ways of delivering learning are essential. E-learning and on-line courses open up new possibilities. The location of learning is being displaced. It is migrating from the classroom to an iPhone, an iPad... Internationalisation has become one of the major challenges for universities.
The conference examined the responsibility of ULLL in the knowledge society. What are the models of the future for ULLL in a globalised world? Two aspects were explored:
• Between competition, collaboration and cooperation – the policy of internationalisation for universities
• The transfer of knowledge by ICT

43rd eucen Conference | Universities’ Engagement in and with Society. The ULLL contribution.

The 43th eucen Conference took place at the University of Graz (AT) in November 2012 and was jointly organised by the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Graz and the European University Continuing Education Network (eucen).
eucen's 43rd European Conference offered an open and stimulating forum for practitioners, policy makers and researchers looking at the contribution that University Lifelong Learning is making to promote and accompany innovative processes in regional business and industry, in NGOs, and in the public sector. The conference also looked at the contribution ULLL is making to Civil Society in a more general sense, providing learning opportunities for individuals and groups for active citizenship and community development, aiming at a democratic development in our societies. Developing ULLL successfully means that more and more "new faces" are knocking at the doors of Higher Education – learners who were usually not considering Higher Education but pursuing other educational and professional paths. As institutions we need to look at how welcoming we really are – marketing is not enough. What do we do with these "new learners"? How can we support them efficiently and effectively?
Within the broad theme of "Universities’ Engagement in and with Society. The ULLL contribution", the conference addressed the following topics:
-TOPIC 1: Innovation in regional business and industry, NGOs and the public sector – the role of ULLL
-TOPIC 2: Community-based education and learning as part of ULLL
-TOPIC 3: An ageing Europe and the role of ULLL
-TOPIC 4: Supporting the individual learner in ULLL

40th eucen Conference | From Rhetoric to Reality

The 40th eucen Conference took place in November 2010 in Lille (FR).
The objective of this conference was double: First to make a state of play two years after the presentation of the European Universities' Charter on LLL by EUA in Bordeaux to Ministries responsible for Higher Education. Is it possible to measure some progress regarding the Universities' and the Governments' 10 Commitments? On which strands? In which countries? Second to come to propositions, recommendations and projects for concrete actions to start/accelerate/deepen the processes at work.
The presentations in plenary sessions and the discussions in workshops were based on the results of a survey done during 2010 with the help of the eucen’s members and National Networks, on the result of European projects in which eucen is involved and on contributions from participants.
Additional materials used during the Conference:
-The importance of LLL at the University: Indicators and Evaluation (ALV) - Alfredo Soeiro (University of Porto). More...
