Les configurations pour l'apprentissage des adultes tout au long de la vie doivent être repensées.

The European Commission has joined forces with Member State governments, the European Parliament, the European regions and social partners in order to:

• Give citizens the chance of learning two languages in addition to their mother tongue from an early age.
• Create friendlier societies, where different communities and individuals engage in dialogue with one another.
• Strengthen the role of languages in improving employability and competitiveness.

These objectives are the backbone of ‘multilingualism policy’. This section presents the activities the Commission has undertaken in these fields. To achieve its medium to long-term objectives the Commission promotes multilingualism throughout the whole range of its policies and programmes, providing an impulse for Member States, local authorities and social partners to take action at their level.

About the project
The ARALE Project aims to collect awareness raising and advocacy campaigns for adult education in Europe directed at the general public, at specific target groups and at policy-makers.
How to raise awareness on adult education? Best practice collection
One of the main objective of the ARALE project is to get better information and knowledge about awareness raising campaigns and better know-how on how to organise, structure and execute campaigns from a civil society perspective.
ARALE conference
The ARALE Conference will present the results of the project and some best practise examples of awareness raising activities for adult education that were organised in Europe towards the general public, specific target groups and policy-makers. Workshops will allow the participants to discuss specific issues in smaller groups. The agenda is currently being drafted.

By David Matthews. Student numbers at private higher education institutions will be capped from 2014-15, the government has confirmed, while private providers will also be granted unlimited recruitment of high-grade students.
At present there is a limit on the total number of students publicly-funded institutions can recruit, but this does not apply to private institutions. As a result, the number of students at private providers has “risen rapidly” in recent years, says draft guidance on the planned cap published by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.
The number of students at private providers making use of taxpayer funded loans has risen from 4,300 in 2009-10 and 5,860 in 2010-11 to 9,360 in the first six months of 2011-12. More...

A program to send Russian students to study abroad – one of former President Dmitry Medvedev’s policy priorities – has been put on hold by the current Kremlin administration, Kommersant daily reported Tuesday.
Under the plan, the state was to foot the bill for 3,000 students to spend up to three years studying at the world’s top colleges and universities before returning to Russia to work in their chosen field for another three years, the report said.
But the presidential administration criticized the program for choosing to invest in managers rather than researchers or engineers, the newspaper said, citing an internal memo from the Kremlin. More...

Les universités d'Europe Centrale et de l'Est attirent de plus en plus d'étudiants étrangers dans leurs cursus de santé. En cause : les frais de scolarité peu élevés, une sélection quasi inexistante à l'entrée… et des cours en anglais !
Hongrie, Pologne, République Tchèque : si ces pays attirent de plus en plus de touristes pour leur charme, ils présentent également d'autres atouts, à commencer par leurs universités. Car les établissements universitaires d'Europe Centrale et de l'Est sont devenus de véritables aimants à étudiants. La preuve : en Hongrie, entre 2005 et 2010, le nombre d'étudiants étrangers a augmenté de 21 %, selon les statistiques réalisées par l'Unesco. En Pologne, on peut carrément parler d'explosion : entre 2005 et 2011, le nombre d'étudiants étrangers a augmenté de 80 % ! A record number of students have already been accepted on to university courses, official figures show. As of midnight on Wednesday, 385,910 applicants had been accepted by UK universities and colleges - 31,600 more than at the same point last year, a rise of 9%.
The admissions service Ucas said it is the highest number of acceptances ever recorded on A-level results day. The figures come as students across England, Wales and Northern Ireland receive their results, with many also due to learn whether they have won a coveted place at university. More...
