Voir l'article entier...

9th International EUREDOCS Conference - "Missions of higher education and research in the 21st century"

Euredocs : European Research and Higher Education Studies9th International EUREDOCS Conference - Missions of higher education and research in the 21st century
Centre de Sociologie des organisations Sciences Po Paris 23 - 24 May 2014
The 9 th EUREDOCS Conference will focus on the theme: “Missions of higher education and research in the 21st century”
To submit a proposal, please fill in the form p. 5, and send it to: pauline.ravinet-2@univ-lille2.fr
The 9th EUREDOCS conference will explore the broad question of the evolving purposes and missions of higher education and research in the 21st century. Both globalization and the cur rent economic crisis are reputed to have caused an important redefinition of European higher education and research missions. Yet the exact mechanisms and implications of this assumption have not been sufficiently questioned. Is there such a redefinition of higher education and research purposes and missions? If so, what are the drivers for this redefinition? What are its implications in terms of policy reforms, institutional governance, and academic culture?
The 2014 EUREDOCS conference will deal with th is set of questions, assuming that the mission of higher education and research is in no way univocal, but on the contrary results from the confrontation of multiple and competing definitions of higher education and research missions, values, role in society, and expected contributions for economy, social progress, or democracy.
Three sub-themes corresponding to three conference sections have been identified (but they are non exhaustive and other communications related to the notion of evolving purposes and missions of higher education and research are also welcome).
(a) The influence of European union and international institutions in the redefinition of higher education and research missions
This first section engages with the influence of the EU and diver se international institutions. Contributions to this section should go beyond the statement that more and more norms governing the sector are formulated at the European and international levels, in order to analyse more in depth the production of these nor ms, the vectors of their circulations, their reception and re-appropriation by institutions and actors etc.
(b) The transformations of higher education and research purposes and the changing university boundaries
This second section questions the evolving ro le and relation of higher education and research with society. With the current economic crisis, higher education and research have often been presented as problem solvers, because of their role in the production and transmission of knowledge. How did it m ove university boundaries with the economy and the rest of society, in terms of discourse but also in terms of organisational forms? Contributions on topics such as academic expertise, innovation, technological transfer will be of great interest. Contribut ions addressing the questions of the reformulation of the political and civic missions of universities are equally welcome.
(c) Evolving higher education and research missions, the academic profession and the students
How is this broad process of redefinitio n of higher education and research missions associated to a transformation of what it means to be an academic and what it means to be a student? Contributions to this third section are expected to analyse academics and students’ practices, strategies and r epresentations in their individual or collective experience of higher education and research purposes redefinition.
Calendar:
The deadline for the submission of a proposal is 30 January 2014 .
All papers selected for presentation should be available by 30 April 2014.
The Conference will be held at the Centre de Sociologie des organisations, Sciences Po Paris, from Friday 23 May (noon) to 24 May (night) 2014, with the support of the RESUP .

The Internationalization of Higher Education: Next Steps for Europe

By Erin Nordal. The internationalization of higher education has become a reality for many, with a systematic increase in both shorter-term student mobility and full-degree mobility in many parts of the world. This plays a key role in enhancing intercultural competencies and understanding, and ultimately enhances the quality of higher education through the introduction of global perspectives in curricula.
As an umbrella organization for 47 national unions of students in 39 countries, the European Students’ Union (ESU) represents over 11 million students in Europe. Internationalization is a main area in our work in representing and promoting students’ social, economic and cultural interests. More...

The 26th Annual EAIE Conference

In September 2014, higher education professionals from across the EU will head to the centre of Europe for the 26th Annual European Association for International Education (EAIE) Conference. Prague will serve as the breathtaking background for the conference, which will operate under the banner of “Stepping into a new era.” The call for proposals for the conference is now open. Play a direct role in the conference programme by becoming a conference speaker.
‘Stepping into a new era’ is the theme for the 26th Annual EAIE Conference. This comes at a time when the dynamic field of international education is undergoing some of the greatest transformations ever, in all aspects of teaching, learning and administration. Will these transformations change the mould of the traditional higher education institution? What do the next 25 years have in store for us? The 2014 EAIE Conference will discuss these very questions as we take the next steps into a new era of international higher education.
The EAIE is accepting conference proposals for sessions and workshops until 5 November, 2013. The deadline to submit a poster or a presentation for the Ignite session is 22 January, 2013. Conference registration will open in May 2014.
Address 5. května 65, 140 21 Prague 4 Czech Republic.

YOUR input needed: policy recommendations for OER uptake

There are hundreds of thousands of free and open education resources spread across the internet and being organized into repositories such as the OER commons, TES Connect, and Open Education Europa. Yet many teachers and learners are not benefiting from these resources.
Policies for OER Uptake (POERUP) looks at in-depth case studies of user and producer communities of OER in Europe and abroad. The project has already created an inventory of over 400 OER projects and published numerous reports on European and Gulf states. Based on this research, POERUP has come up with three sets of recommendations for encouraging OER uptake in schools, colleges, and universities. More...

Proposal for a Council Recommendation on a Quality Framework for Traineeships

Cedefop - European Centre for the Development of Vocational TrainingThis proposal for a Council Recommendation seeks to ensure that traineeships efficiently ease education-to-work transitions and thus increase young people’s employability.
It sets out guidelines that can ensure high-quality learning content and adequate working conditions. It also outlines how the Commission will support Member States’ action through the EU funding framework, the exchange of good practices, and monitoring.
It covers so-called ‘open-market’ traineeships, i.e. traineeships agreed between trainee and a traineeship provider (business, non-profit or government) without the involvement of a third party, generally conducted after completion of studies and/or as part of a job search.
The proposed Recommendation does not address traineeships forming part of academic and or vocational curricula, neither the one which form part of mandatory professional training (e. g.  edicine, architecture etc). Quality Framework for Traineeships.
