Released in late April, this booklet, containing short articles on five topics (mobile learning, ambient web, human computer interaction, social networking and the broadband home) offers a good and insightful look at trends in learning technology. I like this: "For today s class we will be building a 3D map of the village. First, we'll collect pictures, sounds and anything else of interest from each street. Split into teams of four and take your camera-phones with you. By mid-day we will have built our own virtual map, and then we can get together to plan which parts to research further." Yeah. Of course the presumption in this title, with which I disagree, is that unmanaged learning is simply a matter of chance. But that can't be right; otherwise, informal learning wouldn't be very important even now. Have a look at this - and especially read the comments in George Siemens's piece. WG1 Numbered Documents

Document repository for ISO's JTC1 information technology standards workgroup. The contents aren't especially illuminating and there's no RSS, but you can at least see something here. What I don't see, though, is the 'cease and desist' letter ISO is now working under because of IP restrictions. "All work within ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 making use of IMS specifications and standards, including the IMS accessibility specifications and the IMS content packaging and simple sequencing specifications (the latter two are part of SCORM), must cease until such time as there is an agreed upon Intellectual Property rights agreement between ISO and IMS. Ecto, Scone, Click-a-Teacher

Ecto is a social networking site with an educational focus. Developed as .asp which means some of the responses are slow (try searching for groups with an empty search field, for example). The idea is that you can create content (and course pages, with gradable components) 'free form'. Incoming RSS feeds added just a couple of days ago. The site is free. Related: Scone. École du futur et Edtechs : ma revue de tweets

Blog Educpros de Jean-François Fiorina. « Il n’y a plus aucune limite dans la salle dans la classe et pour l’ #ecoledufutur. » Vous m’avez souvent entendu dire cette phrase. J’aurais pu ajouter que cette école du futur évolue dans tous les domaines. C’est à la fois passionnant et frustrant. Il n’est plus possible de suivre l’ensemble. Il faut donc bien décider en arbitrant. Et apprendre à vivre avec ce qui peut être considéré comme l’une des limites de cette nouvelle école qui reste une fantastique opportunité pour les nouveaux acteurs et les Ed-techs. Plus...
