A new Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP) for Tanzania for the next ten years is underway. Tanzania has been working with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and other UNESCO teams on the new ESDP since 2015, and the process is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2016. Once complete, the plan is expected to cater for the learning needs of the around 8 million youth and adults in Tanzania who are reported to lack literacy and numeracy skills and the more than four million children who are out of school.
