Technology Provides Foreign-Language Immersion at a Distance

In an Internet-era version of pen pals, some foreign-language professors at American colleges are using free or low-cost technology to match their students with partners in classes in other countries and to provide authentic language-­immersion experiences. Teletandem, or telecollaboration, as the practice is known, uses video­conferencing—whether Skype, Google Hangouts, or Adobe Connect—to complement both in-person and online language courses. Southern New Hampshire U. Designs a New Template for Faculty Jobs

Delilah Caldwell, a philosophy instructor at Southern New Hampshire University, may well represent the future of higher education’s teaching force. As one of the first full-time faculty members at Southern New Hampshire’s online college, Ms. Caldwell taught 20 online courses last year: four at a time for five terms, each eight weeks long. Bill Would Let Student-Loan Borrowers Refinance at Current Rates

Warren introduced legislation on Tuesday that would allow student-loan borrowers to refinance their debt at current interest rates. An identical bill is expected to be introduced in the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening.
"There’s no reason on earth to say some kids can get a better deal than others when they both worked hard to do exactly what we said they should do," Ms. Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, said in an interview.
