Scope The workshop aims to bring together educators and practitioners in secondary, higher or adult education, researchers, PhD students, administrators, designers of software and language learning systems, policy makers and other professionals involved in Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in Europe and around the globe. With the belief that CALL contributes to increasing accessibility to language learning, better participation and collaboration during the learning process and building up experience for enhanced communication in the international world of work, transparency and validation of new knowledge, competences, acquisition and skills - all necessary for a global integration into the work market, the workshop will create a seminal framework for debate on the theory and practice of CALL collected under the main theme “CALL and career development ”. Topics of interest Submissions may include, but are not restricted to: ICT as resources for innovation to improve language learning experiences; using principles from SLA, TBLT, NLP and intercultural, intergenerational and interdisciplinary approaches in CALL; constructivist learning approaches and the learning experience of a foreign language; feedback from FL learning experience by participation and collaboration: the fun of communicating and sharing; joy of learning in informal - non formal learning situations; open educational resources and open/independent online courses for language learning; competence frameworks (CEFR) in CALL design; computer-based language tests; corpus-based technologies; blended learning; virtual reality, simulations, media rich solutions in language learning; mobile apps for language learning; specific needs, skills, purposes in CALL; teacher education/professional development and CALL; learning experience and quality as part of institutional competitiveness and ICT resouces and approaches; learning quality and quality management in education and CALL Contributions are invited from specialists and practitioners in the various disciplines and research areas which bring input to the development of CALL. Proposals for research papers and innovative European projects must be submitted online via the else submission system mentioning registration for this particular workshop. La 5e conférence internationale ALTE est l’un des plus grands évènements multilingues de la communauté mondiale des organismes certificateurs en langues. ALTE Paris 2014 est l’opportunité rêvée pour entendre des personnalités influentes, aborder des enjeux clé et rencontrer des collègues du monde entier. Cet évènement, qui se déroule sur deux jours, s’appuie sur la réussite de la 4e conférence internationale ALTE, tenue en 2011, et élargit le débat vers de nouveaux horizons encore plus fascinants. There is general consensus among linguists and language experts that slightly more than 7,000 languages (Ethnologue 2013) are spoken across the world today and that half of them are under threat of extinction within fifty to one hundred years. Today at least 3,000 tongues are endangered, seriously endangered or dying in many parts of the universe. It is a deplorable fact that many linguists have remained rather ignorant to the threat to most of the world’s languages until fairly recently. This conference aims to examine the reasons behind this dramatic loss of linguistic diversity, why this matters, and what can be done and achieved to document and support endangered, moribund and small languages especially in the context of an ever increasing globalized world. In fact, to date there is very little empirical research on the impact of globalization on endangered languages and language shift. How can a minority/indigenous language be maintained in this era of globalisation and what is the role of language policies and language planning strategies in multilingual contexts? And finally, what are the benefits of documenting and archiving endangered languages for linguistics, related disciplines and human cultural heritage in general, especially in the light of new advances in technology and data collection methodologies? In this vein, the context of globalization and language threat will be explored, with all the challenges and consequences involved and discussed from a variety of perspectives: sociolinguistics and the sociology of language, language contact, language policy/planning, language ecology, language endangerment and documentation.
