Dans le cadre du contrat français de fourniture à l'Australie de 12 sous-marins, de premiers accords ont été signés entre les représentants du gouvernement de l'Australie méridionale, le Conseil régional de Bretagne et des établissements bretons d'enseignement supérieur (universités et écoles d'ingénieurs). En effet, les sous-marins seront construits à Adélaïde, la capitale de l'Australie méridionale, il faudra donc former sur place des centaines de personnes.
