UUK seminar series: creating value from open data
The UUK seminar series ‘Creating value from open data’ investigates the potential application and benefits of open data in higher education. Higher education is a data rich sector operating in an increasingly complex domestic and international landscape. As the volume of data grows, so has the interest in methods and approaches that help realise the full value of this resource.
Open data has the potential to contribute to the advancement of university education and research missions by maximising the value of the existing data resources in a variety of ways, including:

• Decision making and organisational change
• Student choice and recruitment
• The research process
• Teaching and learning
• Driving economic growth

During the course of this seminar series, speakers from the public and private sector will explore various themes on open data, including:

• What is open data and why should we be interested?
• How is the potential of open data translated into practice?
• Where are the problems and how can they be avoided?
• Where is good practice already happening in higher education?

These free seminars are for leaders and administrators of higher education institutions, representatives of higher education sector organisations, researchers and policy makers interested in the potential application of open data in higher education. The series starts with events in June and July and will resume in the autumn. Places are limited. Please check for updates and news about the series on the UUK website and @opendatauuk.
