By Yojana Sharma. United States universities should collaborate to counter growing Chinese government influence on US campuses which undermines academic freedom and promotes Beijing’s political views overseas, including on geopolitics, according to a wide-ranging report on China’s political influence on American higher education. Groove Educational Case Study: CAL State University

Groove Educational Case Study: CAL State University
Groove has been criticized in the past in these pages, but it's worth taking a look at this case study, written about a professor who has used it for a number of years in his classes with great success. More...

U.S. Spends The Most, But Gets 'F' In Education

U.S. Spends The Most, But Gets 'F' In Education
I knew there were problems, but I can honestly say I didn't realize it was this bad south of the border. The number that will be played in U.S. papers - 19th among OECD coutries in education - doesn't mean much, as the competition includes highly developed countries such as Japan, Korea, Canada and Finland, among others, and these rankings would be much worse if they included performance in history and geography. ISSN Canada

ISSN Canada
Well. Prompted by some nice comments on my discussion board, I decided to take another crack at obtaining an ISSN for OLDaily. I received the following response: "Thank you for your application. At the moment, we are no longer assigning ISSN to weblogs, but the situation is under review. The question of whether weblogs will be able to be assigned ISSN is under discussion in the international ISSN Network. The question hinges on the scope of the ISSN but also on the very real consideration of the limited staff resources of ISSN centres worldwide." Government of Canada Newsroom (Phase II)

Government of Canada Newsroom (Phase II)
Funny how things work. Yesterday I asked a questions, to which a reader responded and, in passing, suggested I visit the Canada website. I haven't been there for a while, so I did, and as I passed the news page, I sent a suggestion about formatting. More...

My Canada

My Canada
Canada has, in the words of some commentators, suddenly become a beacon of openness and tolerance. But what we are seeing today is the beginning of the fruits of our labour. We set out to build a nation based not on a particular language or culture or even a particular geography, but as a set of background assumptions and institutions. More...
