DESCRIPTION:
The Department of African Studies/University of Vienna is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the 2nd Symposium on West African Languages. The conference will take place from 27 till 29 October, 2016.
The first Symposium on West African Languages (SyWAL2014) was held at the “Dipartimento Asia, Africa e Mediterraneo” of the “Università di Napoli “L’Orientale“ in 2014.
Papers on West African languages from all sub-disciplines of linguistics are welcome. We especially welcome papers concentrating on language contact and areal phenomena in West Africa and neighbouring regions. We encourage discussions focusing on the areal distribution of phonological, morphological, and syntactic features which cross genetic affiliation and which are thought to be relevant to establish linguistic areas.
SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE:
Prof. Dr. Sergio Baldi (Naples), Prof. Dr. Herrmann Jungraithmayr (Frankfurt), Prof. Dr. Nina Pawlak (Warsaw), Prof. Dr. Anne Storch (Cologne), Prof. Dr. Henri Tourneux (Paris)
