The Melbourne CSHE is hosting a series of public seminars in October and November focusing on emerging trends shaping Australian tertiary education. The seminars are open to all staff and students of the University of Melbourne and members of the public. Each topic will draw from international experience to inform how we can best position Australian tertiary education for the future. Read on for more information and how to register.
1-2pm, Monday, 7 December
Venue: Barbara Falk Room, Level 1, Elisabeth Murdoch Building (Building 134). Enter from external staircase opposite Melbourne School of Design.
This seminar engages with ‘the rise of Asia’ and its interdependent relationships with ‘the West’, the English language, and the commercialisation of higher education in various transnational education contexts in Asia. It argues that these relationships have generated fertile space for more subtle ‘Western dominance’ under the celebrated ‘Asia Century’.
