Doctoral education - Thinking globally, acting locally: EUA-CDE Annual meeting
How do universities think globally and act locally? And how are they responding to global trends and challenges in the practical management of doctoral education? These were the underlying questions that more than 200 delegates from Europe and beyond gathered to discuss at the 7th Annual Meeting of the EUA-Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE), hosted by the University of Liverpool from 19 to 20 June 2014.
Several possible responses to these questions were discussed and highlighted during the event, including the setting up of joint programmes, using e-supervision and finding ways to make international doctoral candidates feel welcome. The meeting also featured broader keynote speeches, giving the view of current developments from universities outside Europe (the US, Malaysia and Australia) and from non-university stakeholders.
