The Rise of Chinese Science
The rise of Chinese science is confirmed by the growing number of Chinese universities included in the top 500 of Shanghai Jiao Tong's Academic Ranking of World Universities which includes the number of Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners, the number of highly cited researchers, papers in the journals Nature and Science and publications in the Science Citation Index and the Social Science Citation Index. Since 2003, 26 Chinese universities have entered the Shanghai index bringing the total to 42 while 21 US universities have dropped out.
