 Full-time, undergraduate applications have increased by four per cent this year, with 35 per cent of 18-year-olds from England applying to study at university, showing a "remarkable" growth in demand for higher education. 
Figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) show that, overall, 580,000 applications have been submitted to the 15 January deadline, just below the record 583,350 applications received in 2011 before the rise in tuition fees in 2012. More...
