EU backs pan-African quality assurance initiatives

By Ard Jongsma. Exploring areas of support for higher education in the framework of the Africa-European Union Strategy, the European Commission has quality assurance and international accreditation high on its agenda. Some of the options under review are promoting a common understanding on quality issues, support for quality assurance agencies, development of continental standards and guidelines, and possible expansion of the African Higher Education Harmonisation and Tuning initiative that ended earlier this year.
