Foreign students 'used to prop up' university budgets
By Graeme Paton, Education Editor. More than half of places at some British universities are being awarded to foreign students amid fresh claims they are being used to “prop up” the higher education budget.
Research shows that students from outside the EU now account for more than 50 per cent of postgraduate places at seven universities across Britain.
One institution – Cardiff Metropolitan – awarded 72 per cent of postgraduate places to overseas students in 2010/11, it was revealed.
