Human Rights Day, 10 December 2019

On 10 December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This groundbreaking document set a high standard for the universal protection of fundamental and indivisible human rights and thus became a shared achievement of the Nations.
Two years later, in 1950, the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) was drafted by the newly created Council of Europe – an Organisation aiming at the unconditional protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. More...

Human Rights Day: Council of Europe leaders highlight 70 years of the European Convention on Human Rights

To mark Human Rights Day (10 December), the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, and the President of the Organisation’s Parliamentary Assembly, Liliane Maury Pasquier, have issued a joint statement looking forward to the 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights in 2020:

Turkey: Protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law – even when fighting terrorism

GRECO president: “Politicians should lead by example, without ifs or buts”
