TandEM – EUA kicks off new project partnership on migrant and refugee integration in Southern Europe

The TandEM project (Towards Empowered Migrant Youth in Southern Europe), led by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in partnership with EUA and COREIS Italiana, was officially launched on 12 February 2018 at a kick-off meeting in Rome. International Women’s Day – the situation of women in academia today

Universities are still male-dominated institutions. Currently, 12% of rectors among the 47 EUA member countries are female, compared to 88% of male rectors. In the 28 EU member states, only 21% of rectors are female. However, the figures for female vice rectors are more uplifting - some EUA member countries do have gender parity (e.g. Latvia, Croatia or Norway) and, on average, a third of vice rector positions in 2010 were taken up by women in countries with EUA members. The EUA Energy and Environment Platform (EUA-EPUE), EIT InnoEnergy and the University of Lorraine would like to invite you to attend the event “European Universities for a Clean Energy Future: Interdisciplinary Education, Training and Research”. The event will be hosted by the University of Lorraine (Nancy, France) on 21-22 March 2018.
Participants in the event will have the opportunity to discuss interdisciplinary education, training and research for a clean energy future. The event will take as a starting point the recommendations issued in the newly-published report “Energy Transition and the Future of Energy Research, Innovation and Education: An Action Agenda for European Universities. The report “Action Agenda”, produced by the EUA Energy and Environment Platform after the extensive three-year UNI-SET project, promotes innovative education and research activities in the field of energy and seeks to support the ambitions of many universities across Europe. EUA participates in ACE initiative on improving degree attainment and equity

The American Council on Education (ACE) has launched a global exchange on how to improve outcomes for underserved students through research, policy and the dissemination of good practices. On 2-4 February 2018, ACE invited higher education, policy and business leaders to participate in an international debate on the topic in Washington, DC.
The conference kicked-off a two-year initiative involving eight national or regional systems: Australia, Canada, Colombia, the European Union, Germany, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. In this context, an EUA delegation comprising EUA Board member Michael Murphy, Institutional Development Director Tia Loukkola and Academic Affairs Director Lewis Purser from the Irish Universities Association represented the European Union.
