Supreme Court Won’t Hear Challenge to Google Books Project

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a legal challenge by the Authors Guild, which argued that the Google Books project to scan about 20 million books for an online library violated copyright law, Reuters reported on Monday.

U. of Iowa Changes Name of Student Portal to Avoid Terrorists’ Acronym

U.S. Publishes Details on Religious Colleges Seeking Title IX Waivers

Such waivers allow the colleges to receive federal funding without violating their religious beliefs. But the exemptions are controversial: Last year the Human Rights Campaign, an advocacy group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights, published a report stating that a growing number of institutions were seeking and receiving the waivers, in order to be able to discriminate against LGBT students without jeopardizing their federal funds.
