The government of Ontario has shut down 14 campuses of Everest College, whose U.S.-based parent company, Corinthian Colleges, collapsed last year while under scrutiny from the U.S. Department of Education. On Thursday the regulator that oversees Everest revoked the chain’s license to operate. The National Association of Career Colleges, a nonprofit group that represents career colleges in Canada, told the CBC that it hoped to work with the province to limit the damage to the more than 2,400 students who attend Everest institutions in Ontario. By Andy Thomason. A consumer-advocacy group says several colleges are not making their credit-card agreements available to the public, in violation of federal law. In a letter to two officials at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal agency, the Consumers Union said the group had contacted 10 universities, none of which “provided us any information or copies of their college credit-card agreements.” More...

By Andy Thomason. Colorado’s attorney general has sued a for-profit college for “deceptive trade practices,” The Denver Post reports. The lawsuit, filed in December, asserts that the company, CollegeAmerica, misled students by advertising, for one thing, that they “could earn a million dollars more over your lifetime if you hold the right degree.” More...

By Andy Thomason. The U.S. Department of Education is investigating whether Boston College makes appropriate accommodations for its disabled students, The Boston Globe reports. The inquiry, which was prompted by complaints from current and former students, was as of December just one of 23 being conducted nationally.
