Fall 2013 IPEDS Data: New Profile of US Higher Ed Online Education

The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) and its Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) provide the most official data on colleges and universities in the United States. Last year they released data on distance education (essentially online courses) starting with the Fall 2012 term. Last week they released new data for the Fall 2013 term. The Quotable Justin Reich: MOOC research needs to reboot

Call for #MOOC experiences and research #eMOOCs2015

For all of you with fresh, renewed, or deepened MOOC ideas: the deadline for the third MOOC stakeholder summit in Mons, Belgium (the so called eMOOCs2015 conference) has been extended with two weeks. So get your keyboard or audio-scriber ready and put your thoughts to paper, for I would love to hear you and shake your hand on my native mother soil (Belgium, yes), before meeting around the globe again.

Deadline for submissions: 23 January 2015

Location of the conference: Mons, Belgium

Date of the conference: 18- 20 May 2015

Type of submissions: papers on MOOC experiences and research papers.

Upcoming the Really Useful #EdTechbook and chapter

By Inge Ignatia de Waard. What a great start of a new year, to be able to work with wonderful people and get a chapter out as well. The ever working David Hopkins (I think he did not have one single day off during the past holidays), has been editing a book entitled "The Really Useful #EdTechbook" which will be on sale from 28 January 2015.
The book consists of 16 chapters from different authors, all devoted to ... really useful EdTech stuff in a non-academic, simple language. And I am very grateful to David that he allowed me to be one of the co-authors as well, together with the creme of the crop of EdTech experts. Read more...

Norway: expert group suggesting the introduction of contracts

In April 2014, the Norwegian ministry of education set up a new expert group to examine the funding system in Norwegian higher education. At the time, we also interviewed professor Bjørn Stensaker who is a member of this expert group, and he highlighted that “one of the main aims of the Commission is to look into how quality within the sector can be fostered through the funding system.” More...

Hedda 3.0 and other Hedda news

First big news early 2014 was upgrading the site, much anticipated and a major upgrade since 2010 when the page was last redesigned. The new version included optimization for different media and devices, cleaner page structure, post navigation and other nice tweaking. Having worked on the new layout for a year now, this sure was needed! We will of course continue to work on the site further, also through 2015! More...
