Clarivate Analytics has just published a report on research in artificial intelligence (AI) in Southeast Asia, which is based on citation and publication data derived from InCites. More...
Intelligence artificielle.

How Canada has emerged as a leader in artificial intelligence
How Canada has emerged as a leader in artificial intelligence
Michael Smith, University Affairs, 2017/12/07
The question of 'how' is pretty easily answered: we invested in reserach. "This past spring, Ottawa might have made its best bet yet with the $125 million it has set aside over the next five years for a Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy.. More...
Why even a moth’s brain is smarter than an AI
Why even a moth’s brain is smarter than an AI
Emerging Technology from the arXiv, MIT Technology Review, 2018/02/19
A moth can recognize odour after just few exposures. The olfactory learning system in moths is completely mapped, but artificial neural networks do not perform the same task as well as moths. The difference, explains the article, lies in how the two types of neural networks learn (that is, how the two types of neural networks create and adjust connections between neurons). The artificial neural network uses back propagation. In other words, it is given feedback from a training set. More...
Assessing the dangers of AI applications in education
By . Most data collected about student learning is indirect, inauthentic, lacking demonstrable reliability or validity, and reflecting unrealistic retention timelines. And current examples of AIEd often rely on these poor proxies for learning, using data that is easily collectable rather than educationally meaningful. More...How to prepare college graduates for an AI world
Are the robots coming for your job? As many as one-third of American workers—about 50 million people—may need to find new lines of work by 2030, according to a McKinsey & Co report released in December projecting the impact of artificial intelligence and automation on the labor market. More...
Manufacturing an Artificial Intelligence Revolution
Manufacturing an Artificial Intelligence Revolution
Yarden Katz, SSRN, 2018/02/09
This is an interesting paper from last November that reminds me a lot of the work being done by Audrey Watters. The value of this paper is an informed history of the history of AI and its critics (though I would have given credit for 'the view from nowhere' to Thomas Nagel rather than Alison Adam). It has a number of funny examples of deep learning systems misinterpreting images, though in all fairness a lot of humans would misinterpret them as well. More...
