La diversification de la formation professionnelle implique plusieurs processus qui constituent à la fois un déploiement et une différenciation de la formation. Ces phénomènes illustrent les caractéristiques de la complexité telles qu'Edgar Morin nous les livre dans l'ensemble de son œuvre : le tout est à la fois plus et moins que la somme de ses parties. De même, ce qui est complexe est à la fois irréductible, imprévisible, produit et producteur, et auto-éco-organisateur. On assiste ainsi à la multiplication des certifications, titres et diplômes, à certains changements dans les modalités de certification, dû au transfert des certifications vers le secteur privé, à l'invention de nouveaux modèles économiques pour la formation, à la conception d'approches pédagogiques différentes, à la prise en compte d'autres publics, à l'exploration de terrains de la formation jusque là laissés en friche, à la mobilisation de modalités et d'outils de formation innovants, à l'observation de métiers de la formation renouvelés, à la mise en œuvre de méthodes d'accompagnement inédits...
