International recognition for Russian University Ranking

Rating agency RAEX (Expert RA) became the first organization in Russia and the forth in the world whose university rankings successfully passed international audit by the IREG Observatory on Academic Ranking and Excellence. The agency received the right to use the sign “IREG approved” confirming that the methodology of the RAEX (Expert RA) University Ranking as well as the procedures of preparing the ranking and presenting its results satisfy the top quality standards. Other rankings that successfully passed the IREG audit: Perspektywy (Poland), QS (Great Britain) and CHE (Germany). More...

Who Are Canada’s Research Powerhouses?

Yesterday, the good folks at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University released their 2019 world ranking of university research output. This is – in my opinion – the best bibliometric ranking out there: it is complete, nuanced and the people putting it out have thought hard and responsibly about what it means to use quantitatively evaluate research. Top 100 des universités innovantes en Europe : la France dans le peloton de tête

Avec 18 établissements cités, la France se retrouve dans le peloton de tête. Elle est en 3ème position après l’Allemagne (23 établissements) et le Royaume-Uni (21 établissements). World Universities' Ranking on the Web

I thought this was pretty funny, but I should hasten to add that it points to something deeper. This site purports to rank the top 1000 universities based on a web measurement metric: Position = 2 * Ranking(Size) + 4 * Ranking(Visibility) + 1 * Ranking(Rich Files). It was the last - rich files - that gave me the biggest giggle, as I was left wondering about the correlation between PowerPoint, PDF, and academic merit. More...

Global Ranking from Iran

The Islamic World Citation Center, based in Iran, has published a global ranking of universities. There are four criteria, Research, Education, International Activity, and Innovation. The overall rankings are dominated by the USA with Harvard in first place followed by Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). More...

Best Value Colleges: Strong Showing by California Schools

The business magazine Forbes has published the latest edition of its Best Value Colleges ranking. This is an attempt to assist students and stakeholders by providing them with information about the economic value of a college education. Data were collected for 645 colleges and universities which were given scores for six criteria: quality determined by the 2018 Forbes Top Colleges, net price, net debt, alumni earnings, graduation rate, and access for low income students. Cross Ranking Compares Rankings Indicators

The Education Policy Centre at the Faculty of Education of Charles University in the Czech Republic has published a study by Aleš Bartušek and Jan Koucký, Cross Ranking 2018: Comparing World Higher Education Systems and Institutions, that analyses the relationships between the universities included in three well known global rankings, the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the QS World University Rankings, and the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
