Blogging and RSS in Education
Slides and the audio from my talk at Acadia here in Wolfville (7 megabytes). Similar to my talk of yesterday, but I spent less time on the basics and more time talking about wikis, RSS aggregation and Edu_RSS. There are some photos of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Blogging in Education
Blogging in Education
Slides and MP3 audio (10 megabytes or so) from my talk today at Mount Saint Vincent University. The talk itself is a presentation of the use of blogging in learning, blogging technologies and aggregators, and some discussion of RSS. The interesting bit comes after the talk, as audience members remained for almost an hour to continue with questions and comments, including thoughts on the ethics of research and blogging along with my thoughts on emerging trends. Today's newsletter comes from Wolfville, where I will speak at Acadia tomorrow. By Stephen Downes, Stephen's Web, December 16, 2004 [Refer][Research][Reflect]. More...
Extreme Blogging
Extreme Blogging
Having spent several hours on a bus, I am not in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I'll give a talk on educational blogging at Mount Saint Vincent University tomorrow. Then it's off to Wolfville, where I'll talk on the same topic at Acadia University. So today's issue is a bit later than usual - but the quality of the items I'm linking to today can't be matched. Blogs, Tomorrow's Learning, and Why I Blog
Nice post that puts some pieces together, linking some motivtions for blogging with the idea of self directed learning with an observation on the range of learning available online, from the playfulness of Slashdot to the dedicated seriousness of an MIT course. More...
Making the Most of the Blogosphere
Making the Most of the Blogosphere
I felt like I was flipping through my morning reads as I flipped through this slide show - the point of the presentation is to highlight not blogs per se but the many aggregator sites and filters that are beginning to spring up. More...

BloggerCon III: Notes and Observations on the People of Moore's Law
BloggerCon III: Notes and Observations on the People of Moore's Law
Interesting take on the BloggerCon conference just finished in Palo Alto. In most technology conferences, the sponsors of the conference - usually a technology company - assume they have dibs at a speaking slot, typically a keynote. More...
Difficult
Difficult
Words seldom fail me, but it's hard to find utterances to express my opinions about this. James Farmer, a well respected blogger and important contributor to the field, is told by his director (in an unnamed university - but you know who you are): "cease supporting and promoting weblogging, wikis or any other technology not officially supported by the University." One wonders what the motivation for such a demand would be. More...
