AACE Phoenix

AACE Phoenix
November weather has settled in over New Brunswick, and this morning's round of snow and sleet has been followed by a generally gloomy day. 6 a.m. tomorrow I'm on an airplane, headed for AACE in Phoenix, which you would think would fill me with some joy, but my registration already appears to have been messed up, there's no way to fix it online, and there's no speaker or schedule information on the website, expect for the usual keynotes and invitees. The Experience Designer: Learning, Networks and the Cybersphere

The Experience Designer: Learning, Networks and the Cybersphere
I found this relatively new blog by following a link to this item through my referrer system, then following the link on a comment on that page. It is based on the author's book of the same name. More...

Collaborative Learning Environments Sourcebook

Collaborative Learning Environments Sourcebook
A resource that quotes me in the first line is sure to get my attention sooner or later, and not surprisingly such a work resonates with my thinking. From the website, "This is a sourcebook for academics and students who want to develop collaborative learning environments (or communities of practice) in which lecturers, students and others can work together to create new knowledge while learning new skills." Looking for author information I follow the main link and reach the The Critical Methods Collective and just know I'm in the right place. More...

Le Marque Page

Le Marque Page
This French language e-learning magazine is based in Turkey and seeks to speak to learners on four continents. Described in educa.ch (also in French): "The Marque Page is a webzine having the objective of publicizing classroom work and to support the exchange of information and linkages between francophones worldwide. The site, particularily rich, is animated by teachers of schools in Istanbul with the aid of l'Institut français." Forgive the rough translation; I'm still new at this. More...

RLOs: Education if Engineers Did It

RLOs: Education if Engineers Did It
While the concept of plug-and-play may work for hardware, suggests the author, reusability in e-learning may be more of a challenge because there is no such thing as context-free learning. More...

This is Your Brain on the Internet

This is Your Brain on the Internet
The sense of this article is conveyed in a single sentence: "I could never go back to just f2f activities." It is hard today for experienced writers and developers to imagine life without the world's largest reserach library and collaborative network sitting at their fingertips. More...

E-Learning On The Fly

E-Learning On The Fly
I don't agree necessarily with putting the learning on a hand-held - I mean, where's the need in a fast food restaurant, where there are plenty of locations for a fixed installation with a larger screen. More...

Partnerships of Indian and Western E-learning Producers: Cultural Issues

Partnerships of Indian and Western E-learning Producers: Cultural Issues
I enjoyed this discussion of the cultural difference between India and western nations and how they affect the development of e-learning products in those countries. "There’s little doubt that Indian e-learning organisations are building on the success of the sub-continent’s IT sector and are forming a powerful presence in the global e-learning industry," writes the author. Mapping Pedagogy to Technology: A Simple Model

Mapping Pedagogy to Technology: A Simple Model
Via james Farmer comes this presentation that outlines major features of some theories of pedagogy, shifts them a bit, then maps them to technology (specifically, WebCT Vista). I think it's a good (though brief) presentation. More...
