By Elizabeth Redden. European higher education leaders are concerned that two trade agreements currently being negotiated could cast doubt on the ability of national and regional governments to determine the character of their higher education systems.
At issue are the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), for which negotiators from the European Union and the United States entered their eighth round of talks this week, and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), which is being negotiated between 23 World Trade Organization members, including the E.U. and the U.S.
The higher education-related implications of these agreements, which are being negotiated behind closed doors, are not entirely clear. But in a statement released last week, the Council of the European University Association warned that the autonomy of national and regional governments could be threatened if higher education is subject to international trade rules. Read more...

Parution de l'étude-action sur les Emplois d'avenir
L’Institut Bertrand Schwartz, appuyé par l’Union Nationale des Missions Locales (UNML), a lancé en octobre 2013 une étude-action sur les Emplois d’avenir, comportant deux volets menés de façon concomitante entre octobre 2013 et novembre 2014. Les résultats de l'étude sont en ligne à partir du 5 février 2015.

« En 2013, 273 000 nouveaux contrats d’apprentissage ont été comptabilisés dans le secteur privé, soit une baisse de 8 % par rapport à 2012, après deux années de légère hausse. Les entrées en apprentissage dans le secteur public sont également en recul, mais moins que dans le secteur privé : elles diminuent de 3 % en 2013 pour s’établir à un peu plus de 9 400.
La baisse des entrées en 2013 affecte presque tous les secteurs.
Elle concerne plus particulièrement ceux profondément touchés par le ralentissement économique, notamment le bâtiment. Son ampleur est néanmoins atypique et résulte probablement de la conjonction de plusieurs facteurs.
Elle tient notamment au fait que les jeunes sortant de classe de troisième s’orientent moins souvent vers l’enseignement professionnel, et l’apprentissage en particulier…. »
